“Awọn itan pupa | Awọn okun dudu (Red Stories | Black Bodies)” is an ongoing series of self | non-self-portraits that depict the physical, mental, and spiritual struggles that I have encountered through my transition from an African nation to America. With the use of iconography, body, and gestures I attempt to visualize changes, and experiences; that have happened, and still occur to me or black bodies around me. With the use of fabricated and appropriated African masks, I continue to expand the reach of the perspective by focusing on the topic of African/black bodies moving to White/unknown spaces, which have a history of displacing them.
